The Glentoran Girls’ Academy was established in June 2008 as part of the club’s commitment to growing the women’s game and investing in the next generation of talent. Building on the work of the Glentoran Community Initiative, which since 2002 had supported youth football at the BetMclean Oval, the Academy was designed to provide a professional and structured pathway for young female footballers. It represents an important part of the club’s wider mission to give back to the community that has stood behind Glentoran for over 140 years.
From Under-8 through to Under-19, the Academy now offers opportunities for players at every stage of their development. Our teams compete in the country’s leading development centres and leagues, supported by high-quality coaching and access to modern facilities. Alongside football, we are proud to deliver an educational scholarship programme in partnership with the Ashfield Partnership, ensuring that our players can achieve both on the pitch and in the classroom.
The Academy has already produced players who have gone on to represent Glentoran Women at senior level and earn international recognition with Northern Ireland at youth and senior age groups. Their achievements are a source of immense pride and serve as inspiration for the younger players following in their footsteps.
Our aim is simple: to help every player maximise their potential and play at the highest possible level. The Academy promotes equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring opportunities for all regardless of background, while instilling the values of respect, teamwork and sportsmanship. Through this approach, we prepare our players not only for football, but for life beyond the game.
