Glentoran Women: League kick off this Sunday

Fri, 03/05/2024 - 22:04

Sunday 5th May

Kick Off 4pm

Reigning champions Glentoran Women start the 2024 Sports Direct Premiership with a home match v last season’s third placed team, Crusaders Strikers. The team will be playing its home games this season at the Blanchflower Stadium.

The last meeting between the sides was at Seaview in October when a 3-0 win saw the Glens crowned as league champions for the third season in four. The goals that night came from a Demi Vance double and one from Emily Wilson against her former club.

Wilson was also on target at Ashfield in June when the Glens had a 5-0 win. The others that night came from Joely Andrews, Kerry Beattie and Samantha Kelly.

Likely to be in the visiting squad this week will be our former forward Ali McMaster who moved to Seaview last week after 7 very successful seasons at Glentoran. Best wishes to Ali after a couple of seasons ravaged by injury.

Head Coach Kim Turner spoke to www.glentoran.com ahead of the game : “As a group we are looking forward to starting the new season on Sunday. We are fully focused and ready to go. The players have had a great preseason and have put a lot of effort and hard work in, but we know the hard work really starts now.

We are looking forward to playing at a new home venue, and we hope it gives the fans a better match day experience. The fans' support is massively appreciated, and we hope everyone can come on Sunday to be a part of our opening game.”
