Glentoran U15
4 - 1 Hawthorn Rec
Saturday
30th December
This was a satisfactory performance from
Glentoran against a very strong Hawthorn Rec. team.
The game started slowly with both teams
struggling to get to grips with the cold wet windy conditions. Eventually
however the breakthrough came thanks to Lewis
Adair who got the ball in midfield and then following a powerful run
sent an unstoppable shot past the Hawthorn keeper to give the Glens the
lead.
Hawthorn then pressed
forward in search of the equaliser and it eventually came following a
scramble in the Glens penalty box. The ball fell to a Hawthorn striker who
fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net to leave the score level
at 1-1 at half time.
The second half started
with the Glens raising the tempo of the game and they were soon back in
front. Kyle Armstrong was
unlucky to see his shot coming back off the crossbar but Luke
Wilson followed up to put the ball in the net and restore the Glens
lead.
A third goal was soon
to follow when Colin Smith produced another one of his excellent free kicks from
wide out on the right to give the keeper no chance.
To give credit to
Hawthorn they continued to push forward and test the Glens defence with Neil
Edgar producing a couple of excellent saves, including a point blank
one, to keep Hawthorn at bay. Even
when Hawthorn managed to get the ball past the keeper Glentoran Captain Conor McGrattan, leading by example, managed to get back to clear
the ball off the line.
At this stage Glentoran
produced their best move of the match which Luke
Wilson finished off at the back post with a header to leave the score
4-1.
This was a good all
round performance on what was a cold wet windy day.
