Glentoran U13 8 -1 Grosvenor Youth
Saturday 22nd September

Glentoran U13 got off to the perfect start to the new league season with a convincing win at Wedderburn on Saturday morning. Having gained promotion to the premier league the coaching staff and players all knew that this season would be a lot tougher than the last and the attitude and commitment was first class as a mind blowing second half performance seen them run out comfortable winners in the end. The wee Glens got off to the perfect start when new boy Dylan Elliott scored after just two minutes. But slack defending let Grosvenor back into the game when failure to clear lines ended up in a goal for the hard working Grosvenor boys.

The game was now flowing end to end with chances for both sides.   Grosvenor had a goal disallowed for off side while everything the Glens hit seemed to stick to the young Grosvenor keeper. With half time looming a clearance from the Glentoran defence was mis-judged by the keeper and Jordan Dougherty nipped in to give the Glens a 2-1  half time lead. The Glens started the second half just like the first and went 3-1 up  when a whipped cross from Adam McVeigh on the right was unfortunately turned  into his own net by a Grosvenor defender. Two minutes after that, last seasons  top goal scorer Daniel McKee popped up with number 4. Then the lively Dylan Elliott got his second of the game to make it  5-1.

Every attack the Glens made looked as if it would end up in a goal as the centre midfield duo of Daniel McKee and Dylan Orr took control of the  game. Daniel McGrattan got number 6 from close range and Daniel McKee got  his
second and the Glens 7th soon after. The best goal of the game was left till the end. A cross from the  right was cleared to just outside the box were it was met on the half volley  from Nathan Hamilton. The ball curled beautifully into the keepers bottom left  hand corner, giving him no chance. A goal his namesake Gary would have been proud of. Man of the match went to Robbie Morris at the centre of the defence.  A John Terry like performance from the strong defender who never give the  Grosvenor strikeforce a chance.

Team: Gunning, Jenkins, Watson, Myles, Morris, McVeigh, Tharma, McKee,  Orr, Dougherty, Elliott.

Subs:  Hamilton, McGrattan, Martin, Price

Next game: v Newbridge at Orangefield. Kick off 9am
