Glentoran U13s suffered their second defeat in a row after a heart breaking
final few minutes at Suffolk this morning. The game looked to be heading for a scoreless draw when SOPYC won
themselves a corner. The ball was never cleared and it fell lovely for the SOPYC
striker and his left foot volley gave his team 3 pts and left the Glens
shell-shocked. This was always going to be a tight game with these two teams being
promoted to the premier league this season. Last season there wasn't much between
them and this morning was just the same. It was never gonna be a high scoring game. It was always gonna be decided by a single goal and unfortunately for the
Glens it fell to SOPYC.
The first half was a tight affair with both
defences on top and the two keepers had very little to do. Chances were few as both teams
couldn't make any attack count. Nathan Hamilton hit a shot straight at SOPYCs keeper while his
striking partner Dylan Elliott had a shot that went over the bar.
Half time: 0-0
The second half was just like the first. Defence on top with both sets of strikers getting very little joy. Daniel McGrattan came on midway through the
second half for Dylan Elliott but it just wasnt happening up front. Then came the heartbreak. In a matter of seconds all the hard work
was undone when SOPYC snatched their winner from a corner in the final few minutes. The performance and attitude once again from the Glens was top notch and
couldnt be faulted. But the team must now pick themselves up for the next game
and get back on the winning track.
Man of the match once again fell to a defender. New signing Ryan McCaughan
showed what good signing he was with his height, strength and pace at the back. A solid show for his debut.
