Glentoran U13s suffered their
first defeat of the season at the hands of a well organised Rosario outfit
at Strangford this morning. The
wee Glens could not seem to cope with the pace and strength of a tall
Rosario team who played some neat and tidy football on a very large pitch.
The opening minutes saw Glentoran penned in their own half as they struggled
against a five man Rosario midfield. Tactical changes were made to even out
the midfield and this seemed to stem the flow of the Rosario attacks. The
hard working Jordan Dougherty covered every blade of grass up front on his
own while at the back Robbie Morris again showed class and composure when it was
needed. The Glens hard work was undone five mins before half time when
Rosario took the lead. The Glens lost possession on the edge of their own
box and when the ball was squared across goal the big Rosario striker
fired low into the bottom corner. Glens keeper John Gunning unlucky as he
got a hand to the shot but was unable to keep it out. All the Glens
had to show for the first half was an angled effort from Jordan Dougherty
which ballooned over the bar.
Half time Glentoran 0-1 Rosario
The second half started more brightly for the Glens as they began to show
glimpses of what they are capable of. The 2nd half entrance of Adam
McVeigh made a big difference and he started to cause problems on the right
wing. The Glens went all out attack soon after and played with 3 strikers
up front and they started to cause real problems. Adam McVeigh had a
glorious chance to level when he cleverly turned the defender and found space
but mis-kicked his shot and the ball went out for a goal kick. We all know if it
had have been on his right foot he would have buried it. Shotly after that Aaron
Myles had a free kick well saved by the keeper. The day day was summed up with
ten minutes to go when the Glens had another great opportunity to score. This
time though Daniel McKee's goalbound shot hit one of his own players and was
cleared to safety. It definately wasnt to be Glentoran's day and the
3pts where tied up for Rosario with 8 mins remaining. The ball fell to the
Rosario striker just inside the box and he unleashed an unstoppable shot
past the outstretched arm of the Glens keeper. Man
of the match once again was Robbie Morris at the heart of the defence.
Another solid display from the young lad who is having a fine start to the
season.
