Glentoran U12 1 - 0 Grosvenor Youth
Saturday
27th October
Glentoran arrived at
Strangford in buoyant form as we had been playing well.
The game kicked off
with a high tempo from our players and within the first ten minutes we
should have scored ten goals. Wave after wave off attacks resulted in some
brilliant saves from their keeper and we even had hit the bar on two
occasions. Our Keeper Sam had little to do and our defensive play was
excellent. Half way through the first half we got the first goal with some
excellent interlinking play throughout the whole team.
Sadly however the game
was abandoned on the stroke of half time. A late tackle occurred with our
full back catching their winger. The tackle looked worse than it was and
their player was able to carry on with our player being cautioned. This
however was only the start of the incident as their manager being to hurl
foul and abusive language at our players and coaching staff. Under the
rules of the Irish Football Association and their child protection
policies, children should be free from abuse and from intimidation. After
refusing to leave the pitch (their manager) the referee was given no
choice but to abandon the match.
The players were
excellent and it is hoped that either they will receive the points for the
match or that it will played again with a league official present.
