Glentoran U12

- 0 Riada U12
Saturday 24th November
Today saw the visit of Riada to Hydebank on a lovely
winter’s morning. The Coffee stall is now being used even before kick off.
Glen the under 13’s manager also came along to have a look at the new crop of
players coming through the Glentoran Ranks and was kind enough not only to take
the warm up but to also referee the match itself.
Several changes to the starting line up saw captain marvel
move back into midfield along with Richard (the Wall) coming in up front and
Raymond (the enforcer) slot in at the back.
The game kicked of with a high tempo as Glentoran were
chasing a sixth win of the season with our team dictating all the play. I think
over the whole game our keeper only made to saves as our defence has finally
started to be more ruthless in stopping opposition attacking play.
Our attacking play was the best I've ever seen as we kept
the ball in midfield constantly switching the play with some beautiful forward
passes from Mathew Dunn and Craig Briers. Glen Cleland and Andrew Mellon were
simply outstanding throughout the game with cross after cross coming from wide
areas. On several occasions both players had cracking individual attempts on
goal. Our whole midfield were sheer class and the first goal came from some
excellent build up play with a resulting cross from the wing and a great finish
from Richard. Glen went on to score the second goal of the game with a class far
post lob after beating his full back (his first goal of the season and one Gary
Hamilton would be proud of).
Second Half
Two changes were made at half time to freshen things up
with David Fee and Thomas Templeton taking to the pitch. Later in the Second
half Mathew Irwin and Ben Anderson came on. All the subs made a great impact
with us scoring several more goals during the second period but most notable in
my opinion were David Fees lovely chip to beat the keeper which was ruled
rightly offside and Andrew Mellon’s run with his resulting near post chip
emphasising the natural ability my players are blessed with.
A cracking game in which any player that played in midfield
could have got the man of the match award. Craig Briers played from start to
finish running the show, Andy Mellon had his best game of the season on the
right yet it was Glen who got my vote as he unleashed all his tricks to unlock
the oppositions defence every time he got the ball (even his dad was impressed
by his [singing] ability).
Ps. well done lads a great match and the signing in the
afternoon was excellent!
