Red Star
Saturday 10th November
After suffering such a harsh footballing lesson in the
previous match several changes were made to the starting line up for this weeks
match. Mathew Dunn and Andrew Mellon saw themselves being reinstated to the
first eleven after impressing as subs against Linfield while the Back four saw
players being shuffled around and Craig Briers Dropping back into Central
Defence to five a bit of bite.
The players had trained well
all week and the management were confident that we would get back to winning
ways.
First Half
The boys set about controlling the game from the first
minute with lovely sweeping passing movements across the pitch looking for gaps
in the Red Stars defence. Time and time again we had chances to score but were
unlocking in front of the net. It was a joy to watch as not only did we look
great up front but we kept the ball. Glen Cleland, Andy Mellon, Sam Knox and
Matty Dunn were exceptional in midfield.
Second Half
While dominating the game we still had failed to score and
the management knew it was just a matter of time. Before the break, Darryl hand
had been brought on to replace Thomas Templeton at right back and instantly made
an impact with some brilliant marking on their left midfielder and some
excellent tackling. The second half also saw Jamie Tharma and Ben Anderson
giving way up front for David Fee and Richard Annett. Latter on Andy Mellon gave
way for Matty Irwin as the right midfielder was starting to tire having played
so little football lately. Mathew Dunn scored our first goal with some lovely
interlinking play followed by a great shout from distance. Matty Irwin popped up
with the second late in the game to secure the points.
Final thoughts
It
was great to watch our team play so well! For once I haven’t mentioned the
defence but they were excellent! Infact they played that well that I haven’t
even mentioned our keepers name this week ha ha ha. Persons for special
attention: Matty Dunn who was my man of the match, Craig Briers who was
Brian’s man of the match. Brian for refereeing without any contentious
decisions, Richard Annett for some great goal line clearances (just joking mate)
and finally Raymond Tate who didn’t get on but never stopped encouraging the
boys right till the end.
