Glentoran 2 - 1 Newry City
Saturday 24th
November |
|
Late strikes from Daryl Fordyce and Jason Hill
were enough to see off a dogged Newry City side at The Oval today, as Glentoran
preserved their position atop the Carnegie Premier League.
City had taken the lead against the run of play
on 63 minutes, but Alan McDonald's men again showed that they have the character
to storm back and take the three points, despite going behind.
This week's Halfers draw was made by
Jamie McGovern and won by Tommy Jackson of the Glentoran Castlereagh GSC.
Tommy left The Oval £410 richer with ticket number 8327

Ghana
Glens Captain on Trial at The Oval
Tuesday
20th November |
|
The
Glentoran Community Trust in association with Glentoran Football Club are
delighted to announce that 15 year-old midfielder Afriyie Acquah is hoped to be
in Belfast towards the end of next week on a week’s initial trial with
Glentoran F.C. He will be accompanied by the director of the Glentoran Football
Academy Ghana, Christopher Antoh Forsythe who is visiting both London and
Northern Ireland to promote the work of the Ghana Academy.
Acquah is an exponent of the
ground breaking Glentoran Football Academy in Sunyani. He will spend a week in
Belfast training alongside the First team squad and with the Seconds and
development teams. The trial period is to assess Acquah’s progress. The lad is
considered one of the brightest stars in the Academy.
The trial has been co-ordinated
by the GCT and Glentoran Football Club. Whilst Acquah is in the province he
along with Chris will be in attendance at next weekend’s Carnegie Irish
Premier league tie between Glentoran and Newry City at the Oval.
A few weeks ago we had
signalled our intention to host a kit collection drop at next week’s home game
for the Ghana Academy. An opportunity will exist for all supporters who would
like to donate any pieces of kit from either this season’s or last season’s
Umbro range at the Oval next Saturday. Adult kit, tracksuits, tee shirts
sleeveless tees, three quarters, socks or shorts would be appreciated along with
junior sizes (12 years upwards) home or away shirts shorts or socks. Kit must be
serviceable and in good condition.
Please check the GCT website
for the location of the kit drop next Saturday and why not come along and meet
our two visitors.
Additionally
we would like to keep the lad busy whilst he is in the country so if there are
any Supporters Clubs, individuals, youth, church groups, primary schools, who
would like to meet Chris and Acquah or have them visit please get in touch with
us info@gctni.com

CIS
Insurance Cup Semi Final
Glentoran
0 - 1 Crusaders
Wednesday
7th November |
|
Glentoran went out of the CIS Insurance Cup at the hands of a single goal in last night's Semi-Final tie with Crusaders.
The game began with Glentoran playing some great attacking football, despite all the pressure and attacking play the Crues defence stood strong. On the half-time whistle, former Glentoran player, David Rainey popped up in the box to head in what was to be the winning goal.
The second half saw the Crusaders defence close in and again while the Glens attack fought hard, the defence couldn't be broken down. This result will place Crusaders in the CIS Insurance Cup Final against
Linfield.

Colin Nixon to Equal Playing Record
Friday 2nd November |
Colin Nixon tomorrow will make history by equalling the all time playing record for Glentoran Football Club. Colin will equal the record tomorrow of 555 games played for the Glen, a record currently held by Billy "The Tank" McCullough.
This is not only an amazing achievement for any player, but particularly Colin who will break the record at only age 29.
Colin Nixon debuted for the Glens against Cliftonville back in 1995 making his first appearance as a substitute. Colin has since become a Glentoran legend and captured all domestic trophies. The achievement will be marked at tomorrow's game with a presentation made on the pitch.
The presentation will be made by the current record holder, Billy McCullough. The entire Nixon family will be special guests at the Oval tomorrow and will be on hand for the presentation.
Everyone at Glentoran Football Club would like to extend their most sincere gratitude and thanks for all that Colin has brought to the club over his Glentoran career, especially on this extremely rare landmark moment.
Colin Nixon is a great servant to the club and a true "Glenman" having brought us so many great moments throughout his career.
Tomorrows game will be Glentoran vs Institute in the Carnegie Premier League, and kicks off at 3:00pm. We encourage all supporters to come along and show their appreciation and support to Colin and his family.
