Carnegie Irish Premier League
Dungannon Swifts 0 - 0 Glentoran
Saturday
19th January |
|
The Glens traveled to
Dungannon today only to see no goals scored for the second Saturday
running. Finishing a scoreless draw, the game's talking points were
few. Michael Halliday came close for the Glens with a spectacular long
range effort that was tipped wide by the outstretched Dungannon
goalkeeper. Daryl Fordyce also cam close finding the goal untended
with a high lobbed shot over the defence only for the ball to land on the
roof of the net. The first half saw a penalty claim for Michael
Halliday as he passed the ball in front of an empty net only to be brought
down by the goalkeeper and the resulting pass being cleared by the Dungannon
defence. Shae Campbell came close for the home side in the first half,
firing wide past Elliot Morris. Morris himself, was substituted later
in the game after he sustained an injury to his right hand while defending a
Dungannon corner kick.

Irish Cup 5th Round Replay
Lisburn Distillery 1 - 3 Glentoran
Wednesday
16th January |
|
Glentoran,
tonight strolled past Lisburn Distillery to claim a 6th Round place in the
Irish Cup. After Saturday's tense 0-0 draw, the replay showed nothing
similar. While Distillery had the first opportunity of the game
through Andrew Waterworth, producing a 1-on-1 save from Elliot Morris, from
then it was all Glentoran. Daryl Fordyce was the difference in the first half,
clocking up 2 goals for the Glens. The first followed a low cross from
Scullion for Fordyce to tap in, while the second came after Gary Hamilton
fought off the Distillery defence to slot a short pass into Fordyce's
path. Going into half time at 2-0, the glens had to stretch their lead
to prevent any possible comeback. Colin Nixon sent the goalkeeper the
wrong way from the penalty spot in the 2nd half, while Wayne Buchanan pulled
one back for the home side following a momentary lapse from the Glens
defence.
Glentoran now
head into the 6th Round being drawn against either Limavady United or
Dungannon Swifts, who's replay on
Tuesday was postponed. The 6th Round game will take place on February
9th. Click
