Portadown 0 - 2 Glentoran
Saturday
29th December |
Glentoran followed up Boxing Day's fine
display against Linfield today, claiming all 3 points against Portadown at
Shamrock Park, for the first time in 6 years.
Goals from Jason Hill and Gary Hamilton did the damage, as Oval old-boy Andy
Smith saw red in a moment of madness, and was given his marching orders by
the referee in the first half.
The result means that the Glens now sit just 1 point behind Cliftonville,
and 2 behind the Blues at the head of the table, as the title race looks
like heating up in the new year.

Boxing Day Halfers Draw
Unclaimed!
Thursday
27th December |
|
Boxing Day 2007 will be remembered by
most Glentoran supporters as the day the Glens defeated Linfield on
that date for the first time since 1989, however there is one unknown lucky
fan who will also remember it as the day they won £660!
The half time Halfer's draw was made on
Saturday by the outstanding Daryl Fordyce, drawing ticket number 4042.
The draw was made, but no winner came forward to collect this particularly
impressive prize.
We urge all supporters to check their
pockets thoroughly as you may just have the winning ticket number 4042 and
be the rightful winner of £660!
If you are the winner, please come forward
to claim your prize by contacting Halfer's Draw organizer Tommy McKee on
07802354696.

Glentoran 1 - 0 Linfield
Sponsored by Clarendon Brick
Wednesday
26th December |
Glentoran produced a stirring and passionate performance to steam-roll
Linfield in the traditional Boxing Day derby match, and scratched an 18
year itch in the process.
While the final score read a modest 1-0, the game itself was not nearly as
closely fought. While the Blues did create a few good opportunities, the
majority of spectators in the stadium, and those watching at home on Sky
Sports, would willingly testify that this was a game that the Glens
deserved to win by more than a solitary goal.

Glentoran Gazette
Presentation
Sunday
23rd December |
|
The Glentoran 1923 Committee once
again made a huge donation to Glentoran Football Club last week at The
Oval. The donation of £7500 was raised through sales of the Glentoran Gazette
match day programme. The programme is not only a fantastic source of
income thanks to the generous support of the committee, but is a great read and
is widely regarded as the best match day programme in the league. Glentoran
Football Club would like to extend it's gratitude and thanks to all involved in
the 1923 Committee and the Glentoran Gazette for their continued support and
donations.

Pictured prior to our last home game v
Crusaders are Gordon Titterington (Secretary 1923 Committee) and Jim Carter
(Chairman1923 Committee), presenting Aubry Ralph (vice- Chairman Glentoran FC)
with a cheque for £7500 from the Glentoran Gazette. This brings the total for
the season to over £23,000.

Cliftonville 4 - 2 Glentoran
Saturday
22nd December |
|
Glentoran today suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Cliftonville, as
Alan McDonald's tough December took a turn for the worse.
The afternoon got off to a disastrous start, when Colin Nixon misqueued a
clearance to gift the opening goal to Chris Scannell. Scannell, George
McMullan and Mark Holland would add further goals for the home side, with
Gary Hamilton netting a brace for the Glens, but it was too little, too
late to salvage any much-needed points from the game.

Glentoran 3 - 0 Crusaders
Saturday
15th December |
|
Glentoran bounced
back from last week's defeat to claim all three points against Crusaders today
at The Oval. Both teams had their share of chances, but it was the Glens
who ended up with the ball in the net and a well deserved victory. Daryl
Fordyce opened the scoring for the Glens on 11 minutes after a Gary Hamilton
cross was palmed out into his path. Fordyce controlled the ball well and placed
his shot well with two Crusaders defenders on the goal line. At 1-0
Crusaders put on considerable pressure but a 1-on-1 opportunity from Martin
Reilly was well saved by Elliot Morris and Colin Nixon spectacularly cleared the
ball off the line with an overhead kick. Former Glenman David Rainey
almost equalised for the Crues when he hit the post in the first half, but it
remained 1-0 after the first 45 minutes. The second half saw one of Michael
Halliday's most memorable goals as he flick a Gary Hamilton cross with his heel,
beating the keeper and making it 2-0. Gary Hamilton, having set up two
goals already, got the third for himself after a messy goal-mouth scramble.

Tim McCann forced to retire
Sunday
9th December |
|
In a week that saw the Glens lose their first game
of the league campaign, the team was dealt another blow by the announcement of
Tim McCann's retirement. Tim has worked his way back from two knee
operations into the Glens squad and has been lighting up the right wing this
season with his unparalleled passionate performances.
Last week's game at Mourneview park saw Tim
McCann go to the ground after what seemed to be an innocuous challenge and later
carried off the pitch. The injury was confirmed as damage to the anterior
cruciate ligament in his left knee. Having sustained yet another serious
knee injury, Tim has been given no option to hang up his boots.
Throughout his time at The Oval, Tim McCann has
become a Glentoran legend and also earned similar status at Cliftonville,
winning back to back Irish League titles between the two clubs. In recent
months he has become one of the most popular members of the squad amongst the
Glentoran faithful and has expressed an interest in working with the club in
some other capacity should the opportunity be available.
An audio interview with Tim McCann is available
at BBC.co.uk.

Limavady United 1 - 0
Glentoran
Friday
7th December |
|
Having fought back from 1-0 in heir two previous
games, Glentoran failed to do so tonight at the cold Limavady Showgrounds.
The game saw very few chances for the Glens but the closest coming from the head
of Michael Ward as the ball drifted just over the bar from all of 4 yards.
Limavady took the lead just after half time, on the 49th minute a Trevor
McLernon free kick met the head of Ryan McIlmoyle who touched the ball past
Elliot Morris. Adding to the disappointment, the Glens had young
right-back Jamie McGovern taken off with a calf injury and Kyle Neill sent off
after an unfortunate hand-ball.

Glenavon 1 - 2 Glentoran
Saturday
1st December |
|
Glentoran came away from today's
battle with Glenavon at a rain-swept Mourneview Park with another important 3
points tucked away, as they prepare for a critical Christmas period that could
dictate the tone for the rest of the league campaign.
Again the Glens found themselves trailing,
after Barry Meehan had broken the dead-lock with an excellent strike on 65
minutes. But the steel, determination and heart that has been prominent in
McDonald's men all season was to shine again, with goals from Kyle Neill and
Colin Nixon sealing the victory.
