Glens' Caragh is Ulster's top player

Wed, 26/05/2021 - 17:39

The club is delighted to announce that forward Caragh Hamilton has been voted Ulster Women’s Footballer of the Year for the 2020 season. The award was organised by the Castlereagh Glentoran Supporters Club alongside the long-standing men’s award.

Caragh joined the club at age 15 and made an immediate impact from the right wing in her first season. She was called up to the u17 international squad and this was followed by a call up to the senior international squad. Caragh excelled for club and country and played a big role in successful Glentoran League and Cup winning teams.

Larne 0-1 Glentoran

Wed, 26/05/2021 - 00:14

When Rory Donnelly was forced out of the starting XI, having picked up an injury in the warm up, you got the feeling that maybe things were going against the Glens and maybe the season was going to finish with a whimper.

Match Preview: Larne v Glentoran

Mon, 24/05/2021 - 23:14

Tuesday 25th May 2021, Kick Off 7.45pm

Tomorrow evening we visit Inver Park for our penultimate league game in what is a virtual cup final for both sides with European qualification guaranteed by a Glentoran victory.

So far, we have played Larne four times this season with one Glens win and three draws in normal time (Larne winning a shootout after a goalless draw in the County Antrim Shield Final at Seaview in December). Our last visit to Inver was in January when Robbie McDaid equalised a Jeff Hughes opener as the game ended 1-1.

Many Glentoran supporters will be aware of the recent sudden death of former Shelbourne, Finn Harps and Waterford player Alan Keely at the tragically young age of 38. Alan was the son of former Glentoran captain Dermot Keely, who captained Ronnie McFall’s team to the Irish Cup Final victory over Linfield in the 1982-83 season. Indeed Alan was born during Dermot’s two-year spell in East Belfast.

Cliftonville Ladies 4 - 2 Glentoran Women

Wed, 19/05/2021 - 23:56

Glentoran Women suffered their first defeat of the season when Cliftonville Ladies overturned a 2-1 half time deficit to run out 4-2 winners at the finish and extend their lead at the top of the table to five points after four games.

Striker Kerry Beattie continued her fine goalscoring form with a sixth minute opener for the Glens before Casey Howe doubled the visitors lead four minutes later.

However, the league leaders hit back in emphatic style as their trio of Northern Ireland international summer signings all found the net.

Glentoran Player of the Year: Season Ticket holders to vote

Thu, 13/05/2021 - 01:00

As all Glentoran supporters will know, the Castlereagh Glentoran Supporters Club has conducted the independent poll for Glentoran Player of the Year since the 1957/1958 season.

For obvious reasons it is impossible to conduct the normal supporter poll at the penultimate home league match of this season. Therefore the Castlereagh GSC and the parent club have agreed that all 2020/2021 season ticket holders will be able to vote remotely to decide this season’s winner.

All season ticket holders will receive an email over the next couple of days
