Presentation from Glentoran Supporters Committee (1923)

Mon, 07/02/2022 - 22:09

Prior to last week’s Danske Bank Premiership win over Warrenpoint Town, the Glentoran Supporters Committee (1923) presented a cheque for £2500 to the parent club.

The Glentoran Supporters Committee (1923) are responsible for the production and selling of the multi award winning matchday programme, the Glentoran Gazette.

The cheque was handed over by Jimmy Carter, Chairman of the Glentoran Supporters Committee (1923) to Glentoran Chairman, Stephen Henderson. Also photographed are John Moore (Glentoran 1882 Director and 1923 member) and Norman Ternahan (long time former Gazette Editor). (Photograph by Thomas Sewell).

The past two years have been very difficult for the Gazette, with Covid-19 restrictions curtailing the 2019-2020 season early, and seriously reducing edition numbers due to crowd restrictions throughout 2020-2021. Despite these obstacles, the Gazette team under Norman Ternahan and latterly new editor John Grayden, have worked harder and more productively than ever to produce a Gazette with more content than ever. It is to their credit and to the rest of the 1923 Committee members that the club – Glentoran’s oldest supporters’ club – was able to raise this outstanding amount

Stephen Henderson: “The Glentoran Supporters Committee (1923) the oldest supporters club in Ireland, have for the last 99 years been the very epitome of everything that is good about Glentoran Football Club. Volunteers who produce a matchday programme unparalleled in this country and who then stand in all weathers, win or lose, to sell it to our supporters. Those purchases and their efforts have meant that even in the time of COVID, even with most of a season played behind closed doors, they have still been able to do what they have always done - provide financial support to our club.

This magnificent effort deserves our praise and our thanks. We would urge those able, to continue or start to buy the Gazette, to allow the 1923 to continue their great work.”

Everyone at Glentoran FC sincerely thanks to the 1923 members for their continued exceptional support.
