Kick Off 7.45pm
Tomorrow night we travel to Inver Park to face Larne in the Toal's County Antrim Shield for the third year in succession.
Larne will be looking to bounce back after suffering a first league defeat of the season against Crusaders on Saturday.
Prior to the defeat at Seaview, the Invermen had taken maximum points from their opening 3 league games and overcome PIL side Limavady United in the League Cup, scoring 14 goals in the process. Against Crusaders, manager Tiernan Lynch saw 6 of his players yellow carded and made 4 substitutions. With a large squad to choose from, he may elect to recall experienced defender Albert Watson to the side and midfielders Lee Lynch and Andrew Scott and striker David McDaid will all be hoping to step up from the bench.
Larne’s penalty shootout win against the Glens in last year’s Final saw them lift the Shield for the first time in their history. They had previously reached the Final on 3 occasions but lost each time, most recently a 2-1 defeat to Crusaders in the 1973\74 Season. For Glentoran, it has been 11 years since the trophy last took its place in the Oval trophy cabinet - when a 3-1 win against Linfield at the old Windsor Park gave Scott Young’s side a surprise success.
Mick McDermott: “Tomorrow night in the Shield is another opportunity to win a trophy and we’ll approach it in that frame of mind, as will Larne. It’s also an opportunity to give some important squad members some game time so we’re all looking forward to this one. Its always a good match against Larne either home or away so all the boys are well up for the game.”
Remember this is an all-ticket match and no payment will be taken at the gate.
