At Stangmore Park, Dungannon last weekend Jonathan Smith’s 90th minute penalty gave Glentoran their first league win since they defeated crisis club Portadown on 20th August.

This Saturday we face fourth placed Cliftonville in the Danske Bank Premiership and manager Gary Haveron will be looking to build on last weekend’s performance and hopefully achieve another positive result.

Earlier in this Premiership campaign the two sides met on match day 2 and it was Cliftonville who took the points on that occasion at Solitude with a 2-nil victory.

Last season the league meetings between the teams saw both win two and lose two however the Reds secured 3-2 victories (both at Solitude) in both the League Cup and the Europa League play-off game.

Over the past four seasons Glentoran’s home league record against the Reds has been very good with 4 wins, 3 draws and just 1 defeat in the 8 meetings. In 2015-16 the two Oval games saw a 2-nil win for each side; Jonathan Smith and Fra McCaffrey getting the goals for the Glens in the pre-Christmas fixture. McCaffrey netted the only goal of the game in April 2015 and many will remember Danny McKee’s stoppage time winner on 20th December 2014. In both the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons Glentoran recorded 1 win and 1 draw in the Premiership meetings at the Oval.

For this weekend’s game Calum Birney remains suspended, the final game of his ban following his red card against Linfield. Jay Magee may also miss out with a hamstring injury whilst Curtis Allen is unavailable following surgery on the abscess that has been troubling him for a number of weeks. On a more positive note, Marcus Kane has trained all week and may be included in the squad.

The Board of Directors at Glentoran Football Club would ask that all supporters travelling to the Oval by private car consider the local residents when deciding where and how to park.

Thank you for your cooperation.
