Alan Kernaghan takes charge at the Oval for first time as the Glens entertain Dungannon Swifts on Saturday afternoon.

The former Republic of Ireland international got off to an unfavourable start as the new boss last week, he watched on from the dugout as his team were reduced to nine men and were beaten 3-0 by the reigning champions at Seaview.

The East Belfast side also bowed out of JBE League Cup in mid-week, following a narrow 3-2 defeat against holders Cliftonville.

However, tomorrow’s game against the Swifts brings a new challenge as Kernaghan will be looking to get the Glens league form back on track.  The Irish Cup holders were on an impressive run of form after sweeping 11 points in their last five league games, before coming to a grinding halt last Saturday.

The Swifts also have a new face in charge in Rodney McAree, taking over from Darren Murphy who resigned at the tail end of last month after taking the club as far as he could.

McAree’s men sit second bottom of the table without a win since September.  Last week the Swifts were unfortunate not to claim a point against Glenavon as Eoin Bradley snatched a late winner for the Lurgan Blues at Stangmore Park.

Back in September with Eddie Patterson and Murphy still in charge, it was the East Belfast manager who came out victorious, his side showed fantastic spirit to fight back from behind twice to claim a much needed 2-4 win.

With both current managers looking to taste victory for the first time, something will have to give in tomorrow’s showdown.

Ahead of the game, the Glens will be without William Garrett who is waiting on a scan following a nasty injury on Wednesday night.  Curtis Allen, the club’s top goal scorer is suspended after seeing red in the same game.  However, Marcus Kane and Niall Henderson are back in contention after serving one-game bans following their dismissals at Seaview.  Jonny Addis is also in line to make his 100th club appearance for the Glens.
