Wed, 29/07/2015 - 22:56

Glentoran FC is delighted to announce that youth player, Jack White has secured a move to  Wigan Athletic as a 1st year scholar on a 3-year contract.

Jack signed for Glentoran in June 2011 after 3 years with local Boys Club Bloomfield Juniors. He was an immediate success as he played his part as the U13 squad won their domestic league and reached the final of 2 cup finals. At the end of that first season he travelled to Holland, where the young Glens team won the Holland Easter Cup.

From the age of 12 Jack has been involved in the IFA County Elite programme from which he was selected for the Club Northern Ireland Elite Squad.

In January 2015, Jack signed Professional forms for Glentoran following which he trained regularly with the Irish Cup winning 1st team squad. This invaluable experience undoubtedly helped in his development which has now led to his move into the full time professional game.

Jack has represented Northern Ireland on 12 occasions, the highlight of which was his winning goal against Scotland in the 2014 Victory Shield tournament. He also played for County Down in the prestigious Northern Ireland Milk Cup in 2014 with the highlight a hat-trick against the Japanese national side in a 4-2 win.

Wigan Athletic Academy Manager, Gregor Rioch said: “We’re delighted to have Jack join our Academy. He’s an exciting talent who the coaching staff and ourselves are looking forward to working with. It’s fantastic to have another youth international joining our group, Jack adds even more potential to the squad. Jack’s got a good family and football upbringing which have both put him in a good position to do well here at Wigan Athletic.”

Everyone who has been involved with him at Glentoran is confident that Jack will succeed at Wigan and that he will continue his development and involvement with Northern Ireland in the forthcoming  European U17 qualifiers in Israel September 2015 against France, Norway and the host nation. We wish him every success in his future career in England.
