The club is sorry to announce that Barry “Hawk” Holland has decided to retire as a player after 2 years with Glentoran.

Speaking at the Academy Awards Day on Saturday, Hawk said “I’m absolutely devastated to have to retire but for both work and family reasons I really have no alternative. I’ve had 2 great years at the Glens after joining so late in my career and I’ll never forget winning the Irish Cup Final last season. That was a real career highlight for me. The club and supporters have always made me feel very welcome and have supported me in a fantastic way. I think everyone at the Oval appreciated my total commitment and to win a Player of the Year Award in my last season as a player was a fantastic way to finish. I really wish everyone at Glentoran all the very best and hope the club gets back to the top of Irish League football as soon as possible”.

Manager Alan Kernaghan said “I have only good things to say about Barry Holland , the way he conducted himself , the way he trained and played were at the top level and he will be sadly missed”.

Hawk joined the Glens from then Irish League Champions Cliftonville in August 2014. In his 2 years he was always a first choice at right back where he made 78 appearances including 43 starts (the most of any first teamer) in the season just finished. He will be sadly missed. Everyone at Glentoran wishes Hawk all the best for the future and assures him he will always be a welcome visitor to the Oval.
