Match Report: Bohemians 1-1 Glentoran

Glentoran crashed out of the Setanta Sports Cup last night following a 1-1 draw with Bohemians at Dalymount Park.

Gary Hamilton put the visitors ahead after 51 minutes, but a short-lived lead was ended 9 minutes later by Raphael Cretaro who fired home for Bohs to level it and dump the Glens out of the competition.

The Glentoran goal was well worked by some of the day's top performers. Jamie McGovern who earned his place at right back for the game did well to keep a misplaced pass in play and even better to deliver an outstanding long pass down the right side of midfield to Keith Gillespie. The former Northern Ireland International struck with a trademark perfect right sided cross to the head of Gary Hamilton who gave Bohemains goalkeeper O'Connor no chance by placing the ball right back across goal and into the net.

Glens manager Scott Young would be disappointed by the goal conceded as the Glens failed to clear the ball from the penalty area with it landing at the feet of Raphael Cretaro who's long range deflected shot beat james Taylor in goal and levelled it.

The major talking point of the final moments of the game is the potentially serious injury to skipper Paul Leeman.  After a seemingly innocuous attempt to win the ball, the Glentoran captain fell to the ground requiring at least 5 minutes physio attention and a stretcher to be removed from the pitch.  Leeman was taken off in an ambulance with a knee injury.  We will follow with the latest updates on the skipper's condition.

After an all round impressive performance from Glentoran and yet another Glentoran.com man of the match awarded to Richard Clarke, his fourth running, there were many positives to be taken from the game despite the disappointment of elimination from the lucrative all-Ireland competition.

Glentoran Team:

Taylor; McGovern (Ward, 77), Nixon, Leeman (C), Hill; Gillespie, Clarke, Fordyce, Neill (Burrows, 83); Halliday (Waterworth, 67), Hamilton
