Welcome to the 2007/2008
Carnegie Premier League review.
The 2007/2008 Carnegie Premier League is now
over and here is were we look back at the last 8 months of football from
Glentoran. It was a brand new season for Glentoran but one also
steeped in history. It saw so many changes at The Oval at all levels
including new manager Alan McDonald coming on board as well as his many new
playing staff acquisitions including Daryl Fordyce, Shane McCabe, David
Scullion, Jamie McGovern and the return of Rory Hamill to the club.
Glentoran Football Club also celebrated it's
125th Anniversary this season opting to wear the classic white Glentoran kit
with the traditional green, red and black trims. It was also a season
where all supporters showed their appreciation for club captain Paul Leeman
in his testimonial year, and also to Colin Nixon who broke the all-time
appearance record for any Glentoran player.
It was a league campaign of many great highs,
possibly the greatest of which ending an 18 year curse by defeating Linfield
on Boxing Day. The 2007/2008 campaign is one that all supporters will look
back on as a great building term at The Oval. With so many young stars
in the current first team, this Glentoran team is one that can dominate for
many years to come.
The
talent of the younger players at Glentoran is epitomised by this
year's Player of the Season, Jason Hill. Jason is currently in
his second term at The Oval and has finally found his place in the first
team. Beginning as a striker in the Glentoran youth teams, Jason found
his way into the starting squad as a substitute under Roy Coyle.
However a lack of first team football took him to Ards for one season.
Hill returned to the Oval where his natural left foot found him placed as a
winger on the left. Happy to play wherever he could, Jason made the
role his own and eventually drifted back to cover at the left side of
defence. Following some fine displays in defence it seems Jason has
found his natural position and solidified himself as one of the top
defenders in the league. His never-say-die attitude is an inspiration
to his team mates and supporters while standing steadfast in defence he also
remaining confident and capable going forward.
So follow the progress of Glentoran
throughout the 2007/2008 season below as we have a brief look at each game.
