Glentoran Under 11's took on Greenisland in their 2nd league fixture of the season after a disheartening 3-1 defeat to Portadown on Saturday.
The boys seemed to use this defeat as motivation to put the hunger back in their football to which the boys of Greenisland paid the price. Right from the first whistle the boys closed down and hunted in packs giving Greenisland no time on the ball. When they were in possession they switched the play and found the wide men who were in frightening form. The first goal came from tireless work horse Ben Walker after taking 3 players on the right wing before slotting the ball into the far left corner and the keepers right. The goal settled any jitters and only made the East Belfast boys notch up into another gear, this saw last years top goal scorer Ryan Tweedie notch up a hat trick before half time taking the visitors in with a 4-0 lead.
Second half it was more of the same and with the backline of Harris, Crookshanks, Craig and Bell mopping up any rare attacks that Greenisland had it left the wee Glens midfield and forward line to concentrate on raining down chances in the oppositions final third. Josh Brush came on in fine form and immediately hit the bar after muscling off the Greenisland centre back before smashing an effort just inches too high. He didn't have to wait long though to get his first of the season latching onto a cross field ball placing it out of the keepers reach to put the game well out of sight.
Alfie May, Matty Swann and David Sloan all got themselves on the score sheet being no less than they deserved after some fine performances. To finish the nights events off young Tweedie came back on to grab himself another two goals taking his tally of the evening up to five and quite rightly so earning the accolade of Man Of The Match in the process. 10-0 it finished to the wee Glens and with last Saturdays defeat brushed off, the boys will need to take the same attitude and workrate from this game into saturdays encounter with Donegal Celtic. If the Glens are to make a serious attempt at the league honours then no less than 3 points will do to keep up with the leading pack.
Well done boys great to see you back, next up DC at Suffolk 09:30 kick off.
