The Glentoran Foundation Trust held
their 3rd Golf Classic on Friday 6th June
at the impressive East Belfast venue of Shandon Park.
Once again like the previous 2 years 150 competitors were
blessed with perfect golfing conditions as the tee opened at
9.30am.
Again some great scores were
posted, none better than that of Stephen Hughes 44points who
piped team mate Richard Lucas into 2nd place.
Not unsurprisingly ‘CIYMS Cricket’ picked up the team
prize which also included Stephen and Richard, congratulations
to them and thanks to all who participated.
As ever the BBQ and complimentary
‘Corona’ on the 10th proved a real hit with the
golfers, with some seeming reluctant to leave and continue on
with the rest of their round.
Credit must also go to Shandon Park Green keeper Jeff and
his staff for manicuring the course into top condition for
another successful day.

Numbers soon swelled close to the
200 mark for the evening’s entertainment in the club house
that evening, where the Glentoran Foundation Trust presented
their Player of the Year Trophy to Jason Hill after a deserving
season. It was also
good to see large tables from both the Castlereagh and Internet
Glentoran Supporters Clubs who had both previously taken part
earlier in the day.
Following a superb three course meal washed down by
an endless supply of quality wine sponsored by the Glentoran
Club Captain Paul Leeman, guests were entertained by comedian
Gene Fitzpatrick followed by guest speaker Sir Ronnie Flannigan.
Gene Fitzpatrick then took control of the auction
where some high quality items were auctioned off with every
penny raised being ploughed back into Glentoran Football Club.
Undoubtedly a great day was had by all and we look
forward to doing it all over again next year. Our sincere
thanks, to all those who played, tee box sponsors, prize
sponsors, those who provided an auction lot and ballot prizes,
those who supported the auction, to our team of volunteers who
either served at the 10th or manned the auctions and
not forgetting the Captain and Council at Shandon Park Golf Club
for letting us take over ‘their’ club for the entire day.
Thanks also to all the current and former players
and managers who made the effort, and to the Chairman and Vice
Chairman of Glentoran Football Club for supporting the event.
